Brief:
Windows and Doors is the second album released by the Canadian singer-songwriter-musician, Jean-Paul De Roover. De Roover is a self-proclaimed “one-man band” who builds his songs from the ground up with live looping and prerecorded material. The graphics, typography, and packaging must display the layered quality of De Roover’s musical assembly, as well as the underlining message of the album, “when life opens a door—closes a window.”
Solution:
We used the “windows and doors” concept quite literally and designed the album to fold into a house when un-packaged. A custom di-cut template was created to maintain the structural integrity of a house, while accommodating a CD, DVD and detachable credits leaflet.
The album illustration represents the idea of dichotomy found in De Roover’s music. The exterior of the album displays a home, which begins as quaint, but continuously deteriorates into an metamorphosis of organic matter. The interior of the album illustrates two personified entities—a man and a woman made of the houses organic materials, reaching for an embrace amongst the surrounding chaos.
